I Resolve To.... Los Angeles Beach photography

I resolve to kiss my babies on the beach more. Living just a short drive from the Pacific Ocean I am just not there enough. It is nice enough year round that there is no reason that we can't make it a few times a month instead of once every few months. So in 2014 I will take my kids to the beach. Often. Also while doing my favorite photos of 2013 it was very obvious that I photograph my daughter far more than I do my sons. Part of the reason is my daughter is willing to model. She enjoys dressing up. She has so many fun cute clothes that I want to play dress up with her! My boys are less interested in photoshoots. Now because I don't want to force them to take photos I will learn to photograph them just the way they are. Letting go of MY vision for them. Don't get me wrong I am sure I will take advantage of any oppertunity to photograph Kara, cause ummm, tutus. I will just make time for the boys more as well! Yesterday I did worked on both of these. Moment Of Motherhood- Los Angeles Nursing Photography

This session is from last years National Breastfeeding Month sale. Her photos can be seen on my main page but I just noticed I hadn't blogged them yet. This mama radiated motherhood at her session with me. Her gentle parenting (and perfect livingroom window light) quickly became the highlight of our session when Westley was more interested in checking me out than nursing. The thing I love about nursing sessions is they are so much more than pictures of a baby at the breast. They show a bond and connection between a mother and her child. Older nurslings are often distracted by my camera at nursing sessions but I take my time and photograph them playing and cuddling with their mothers as well as nursing.

A few years ago I won tickets to Expressing Motherhood. Tickets to a show for women with free wine and cupcakes.. HECK YEAH! My friend and I both left our nursing babies with our husbands for a ladies night out. This was a rare treat for me at the time. I was pretty new to L.A., had only made a few err, a friend. At the show we treated ourselves to greasy food truck snacks, a few glasses of wine and cupcakes. Each cast member told a different story. Stories of joy, pain, and silliness. The show was raw, humbling, and hilarious. I was so inspired by these woman. Their confidence. Their passion. From the day my husband I moved to L.A., 8 months pregnant with our 20 month old and 10 year old we knew we loved it here. But, after this show though, I felt a connection. A connection with ALL the L.A. moms. Not only the ones like me but the ones who were different as well! I left less judgmental because even if a mom parented different than me we were the same. We all had 1 thing in common aside from having had babies. We were raising kids in L.A.! This year I was asked to do the cast photos for the show. I was honored and excited to be part of a show that was so touching to me and helped me feel like I belonged here. A huge thank you to all these beautiful and families and new friends of Little L.A.
