On the last day before winter break, I promised my kids I would make them a writing station. I envisioned them spending their break writing and creating. Then break started and so did the rush to finish my editing, then the packing, then the traveling and oh my it is already JANUARY! So I made making this writing station my first (of many) New Year's resolutions.
The landing at the top of our stairs is our new Writing Station. Clip boards, pencils, paints and brushes. Paper, so much paper! All morning my kids have been creating and my home is strewn with wet paint coated masterpieces!
SO happy I was able to pull this together for them, even if it was at the last minute.
Welcome 2017! I hope you bring lots of creativity into our home!

My family has spent many days at the beach but this one was special.
My husbands Aunt invited us to a beach house in Oxnard. We spent the day in and out of the water, playing ball on the beach, bike riding (and a bicycle built for 2 riding!!) and of course hanging out with family.
Since that weekend my kids, and I, have been boogie boarding weekly! Soo much fun.
Excited for many more beach days, and shoots, before the year ends!

My family had a big week! On the 27th my daughter celebrated her 8th birthday. We had a little family celebration with the most delicious cake from Portos, and took her to the CA Science Center for the afternoon. Today though, is when her big celebrations starts. Grandma flew in late last night and this morning, all 3 of my kids headed to CAMP GRANDMAS! They will spend then next week camping in the Redwoods!
Since I am going to miss them all so much, and because I hadn't done birthday pictures for Luke or Lex yet (bad photographer mommy) I found time one morning, bribed them all with leftover birthday cake for breakfast, and took these pictures! I am so in love with how they came out.
While I am going to miss them like crazy, I am so excited for their adventure and plan on enjoying the clean quiet house with my husband while they are gone. This week is going to fly by and it will quickly be back to the summer madness.

Happy Father's Day!!!
I love photographing dads!
Dads of newborns cautiously holding their new babies in their strong arms. Dads of toddlers tossing them into their air.
Dads always have the fun and adventurous ideas at shoots then follow it up with sweet cuddles to wind it down.
For Father's Day, I would like to offer $100 off all Full sessions booked today!
Cheers to you dads!

When your friend calls and says "I'm picking my kids up from school, let's go to the beach!" You drop everything and go to the beach!
That's what happened last Thursday.
An afternoon on and empty beach with sweet friends was a great way to spend a spring day.
The water was chilly but kids didn't seem to mind and spent most the day in the waves.

Over the weekend, my family headed to a wonderful cabin in Big Bear. I checked the weather for 2 weeks and knew it would be brisk overnight but expected 50's in the day. We brought food for BBQing, balls for playing outdoors. We planned on hiking to the lake... then it snowed!!!
SNOW!!!
My youngest two, having spent most/all of their lives living in L.A. had only ever experienced The Grove and Disneyland 'snow.'
They were ecstatic to say the least!
My youngest said "Is it gonna to be Christmas?" Naturally if there is snow it must be Christmas right?!?
They ran around in the snow in their jammies and rain boots all morning before heading back in to have hot cocoa by the fire.
We can not wait to go back up there in the winter and build a snowman!

Meet Ari!
Ari's parent have been friends with my husband since highschool. Her daddy was a groomsman in my wedding. On a trip up North in the fall I finally got to meet this sweet girl.
We headed over to a beautiful vineyard in Green Valley, CA early in the morning for their family session. It is so fun to watch our friends start families and watch, and photograph, their babies as they grow up!

In early March, I traveled to Chicago, Illinois. My sweet friend Melissa, and her family welcomed me into their home and showed me around the city. Melissa and I have been internet friends since we were pregnant with our oldest daughters. Despite our 8 years of 'friendship,' this was our first time meeting and from the moment I arrived, I was treated like family. I was treated to deep dish pizza and craft beer, amazing homemade vegetarian meals, hot coffee on snowy mornings and brisk afternoon snowy walks, Chicago style hot dogs and smooshy baby cuddles! Obviously, I needed to return their over the top hospitality with pictures of their sweet family!
Thank you, Melissa and Tony for the home away from home!
Foot tall snowman I made so I could send pics of it home to my kids!
And an Instagram I took of Melissa while there. I was seriously blown away by this woman. I am truly inspired by this woman and so grateful to call her my friend.
I need to up my mom game. Melissa wins all the mothering awards. Seriously amazed at how awesome she is!

Every year we spend Christmas in Sacramento with my inlaws. This last year was extra special. We gifted Grandma and Auntie tickets to The SF Ballet Nutcracker!
The day after Christmas all the girls headed to San Francisco. We went to the pier, had dinner at Scoma's before heading to the ballet.
I was so excited to take Kara to her first real ballet and the SF Nutcracker did not disappoint!
Snowfall, tutus, nutcrackers, Christmas trees... just magical!
Hoping these girls days out in the city become a yearly Christmas tradition.

When we first moved to Los Angeles, we spent Sunday mornings at The Original Farmers Market. Specifically Bob's Donuts. Our family would walk over, eat donuts, grab some berries from the fruit stand, and stroll through The Grove, making wishes at the koi fountain before heading back home. The kids LOVED this. I loved that the kids could run around freely before the large crowds would take over. Over the last few years, this little tradition slowed and walks to the Farmers Market have become rare. We go when friends from out of town visit, birthdays and December nights for hot cocoa's and snowfall at The Grove. This past Sunday we gathered up our little crew and headed out for donuts, camera in tow. I think this little Sunday tradition needs to become a more regular thing for our family again.
Does your family have a weekend morning tradition like this? I would love to hear about it in the comments!

During our vacation we headed to Tahoe City for a day. We spent the day with family, walked at the beach and played at the park. It was a chilly but beautiful day. We had been hoping for a little snow for the kids to play in but there was only a dusting up at the peeks that day. Hoping this big storm this week brings the Seirra's lots and lots of snow that will stay long into the spring!
Not sure if these two had ever been in 30 degree temps before. If running around at the park didn't warm them up these hot chocolates from Rosie's Cafe sure did!
